Writing Focus

Last week 5P started to write a Narrative. We Learnt about the five key points we needed to use. The five points were 5 main things we needed to work on. They are as follows:

•Spelling

•Audience

•Paragraphs/ Sentence structure

•Punctuation

•Vocabulary

For Spelling we had to go through and check all our words were spelt correctly. The other option was getting a friend to check that we had correct spelling.

For Audience we were to focus on who we were going to write our book for. Meaning would it be a book for Toddlers, Young Children/Tweens, Pre-Teen/Teen or Adults.

For Paragraphs we had to ensure we had multiple sentences with the same idea. We had to make sure we added a variety of short and long sentences.

For Punctuation we have to remember to add our commas, fullstops, talking marks and exclamation marks in the right places to make sure our writing makes sense. By putting all these punctuation marks in the right place we will be able to make our writing will be better without using words like and, but & then.

For Vocabulary we need to focus on not reusing words to often and replacing them with new and more interesting words that will improve our work.

By making sure we use these skills we can improve on writing narratives.

Senior Production – Danger Kids

Senior Production – Danger Kids

On the 5/9/13 the senior unit got ready for the Danger Kids production. We all danced around with excitement as the parents and family arrived and took their seats.
Once everyone in the audience and the casts backstage were ready, we started the show. Mrs Butera continued with the introduction and boosted their excitement.
The show commenced for around about 1 hour and a half and then Mrs Butera completed the show with special thanks to family and backstage crew, including Mrs Butera’s mum and sister.
Mrs Butera’s mum got thanked due to all her hard work and effort towards making all costumes. Mrs Butera’s sister was a big help backstage with many children around. The each got flowers as well. Next, they gave out the Directors’ Awards to 4 students.
In the end I was happy and I wanted to do it again! I enjoyed the night with my friends and teachers!

Our Research!

This week we are focusing on our research and how we can expand on it. We have been given a chart to help us stay on track with our learning. This chart has been designed to stop us copying and pasting from other people’s websites. We have been well known as the copy and paste club. We have had a few people who have found them selves in the club lately.

We need to include these things to make our inquiry more effective and detailed

•Title Of The Website or Book

•The Author

•When the Book or Website was cited

•And the URL

So now in the columns we have to include a fact or a trusted piece of information from a website or book.

Also a supporting detail from your information will be good.

Now a reflection. It is to be in your own words and using good vocabulary.

Procedure Writing

The Plane, The Procedure and The iPad

This week, our class 5P learned the instructions to make a procedure. We needed to make a procedure of How to make a Paper Aeroplane. But before this, we needed to make one. We had a competition to see who flew the farthest. Bowar won. After the Winner ceremony, we needed to make the procedure now. We had to write it in our books. Then, we needed to make a Oral Procedure of How to make it.
Here’s how to make a procedure:
First, you have a title (Aim).
Next, you have your materials/ingredients (Materials).
And finally, the steps (Method).
To make good procedures you need have Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives and Nouns.
Nouns are like things. Verbs are about people, places, animals and things. Adverbs describes Verbs (Just like adjectives). Adjectives describes nouns.

Writing The News

This week in 5P we have been learning about how to write a news report.
The first one we did was about the disaster in 5P. Everyone worked really hard working on their scripts. When the time came everyone made their videos.
Joel and I made one ourselves with iMovie.  We watched BTN a Internet web show to see how they broadcast their shows. We focused on their facial expression and how clear their voice is.
Then later on in the week we did another broadcast about an incident that happened in class. Then we completed a video clip about that.
Everyone had fun and enjoyed it. Some samples of our News Reports, both written and videos will be posted shortly.

Narratives

Narratives

In our fun week of learning we have learnt….. how to draft our own narratives.

We all had plans to help us with our narratives. The class and Mr Sharp started drafting one ourselves to help us with our learning and understanding of narratives.

Then  we started drafting them. We all worked effectively on our narratives. It took about 3 days to master and finish our narratives.

After drafting them we came to Mr Sharp in groups to discus how we went. He would tell us how we can improve and what were good at. We listened to other people’s feedback to help our learning too.

My feedback was to put more punctuation and greater variety of vocabulary in my writing.

We all had fun drafting our own narratives.
